Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Terry Duguid has a lifetime of experience serving his community. His early years were often spent at the local curling rink with his four brothers, his mother Georgina, and his father, world champion curler, Don Duguid. He began his post-secondary education at Carleton University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science with a major in biology, followed by a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Calgary.
Throughout his career, Terry has always maintained a strong commitment to public service. From 1989-1995, he served as a City Councilor in Winnipeg, representing the wards of Miles Macdonell and North Kildonan. From 1995-1997 he was president and CEO of Gateway North International, which was responsible for promoting trade through the port of Churchill. In 1997 he founded Sustainable Developments International, a firm specializing in environmental management and sustainable development. In 2000, he was named Chairman of the Manitoba Clean Environment Commission, and in 2004 he became President and CEO of the International Centre for Infectious Diseases.
Terry was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South in 2015, and has since been re-elected in 2019 and 2021. During his time in Parliament, Terry has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and several Ministers, including the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, the Minister for the Status of Women, and the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages.
Most recently, he has served as Minister of Sport, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development and Minister of Environment and Climate Change. Terry has also served in many roles within the Liberal Party. He served as the co-chair of the Liberal Biennial Policy Convention in 2016, chair of the Prairies and North Caucus from 2019-2021, and Liberal platform Co-Chair for the 2021 election. He currently serves as Chair of the National Campaign Committee for the 2025 election.
